(Chapter Advisory Board)
November/December 2011
It has come to my attention that this article has been missing from the Newsletter this year. I didn’t know until recently that I should be submitting this information. So, forgive me and I promise to keep you all informed on what is happening at the CAB meetings.
August was National Conference in Los Angeles, CA. Our President, Kathleen Heinicke, attended and had a very enjoyable time. She has brought back some new techniques, which she is excited to share with everyone.
September was National Sewing Month and the Neighborhood Groups were planning special meetings in the Libraries. Can’t wait to hear how everything went.
Nomination ballots were in the last issue of the Newsletter so be sure to send in your ballot for the election of our officers. Our Annual Meeting is scheduled for November 12, 2011. It will be held at the Sarasota/Bradenton Airport Holiday Inn on 15th Street E. Tickets are available from your Neighborhood Group Leaders. Pam Crosley will be our guest speaker. Hope to see you all there. Also, on November 13, Pam Crosley will be having a workshop for pants fitting.
Janet Loy will be taking care of the EXPO Bus trip for 2012. It is being held in Lakeland again. The date for the trip will be Thursday, February 23, 2012; so save that date on your calendars.
Please remember to check our website frequently. There is a lot of information and any last minute changes are listed. Eva Winter does a wonderful job.
Also, our Board meetings are always open to our members. Please feel free to attend any one of our meetings.
Until next time, Mary Jane Fuller
January/February 2011
The next thing on our agenda will be the Regional Meeting in February which our Chapter is hosting. Plans are being made and gifts and things are being made. We need all the volunteers we can get, so please step up to the plate and volunteer to do something - anything at all - we need your help. This is a big step for our Chapter and we want it to be perfect and memorable.
I know it’s early to be thinking about it, but the 3rd Annual Retreat will be here before we know it. It’s time to start looking for a roommate if you want to share a room; if not, you can have a single. It’s certainly better if you find your own roommate, but if you can’t, I’ll certainly try to find another single with whom to share . We had a great time at the last one and we’re certainly looking forward to an even better time at the next one. Ask any one that was there at our 2nd one. Please watch the upcoming Notions magazines for articles from our Chapter!
Eva Winter, chairperson for community service, wants to let everybody know that if they have made and donated something to any charitable organization, whether it be for ASG or not, to please let her know. She sends these reports into National and our Chapter gets recognition for it. They like to know what we’ve been doing. I know a lot of you do most of your sewing for charity, so please let Eva know what you’re doing. Helaine Eckstein, youth education chairperson, is looking for “recycle/green” suggestions for the 4-H camp next year. If you have any good ideas, please get in touch with her. Her name and number are in the newsletter.
As always, please check our website frequently - there may be some changes there you might want to know about.
That’s it until next time.

The end of the year is drawing near but certainly not ASG activities. The annual meeting is very soon and I hope that ALL of you will be there. It’s always a fun meeting and a wonderful time to meet up with all of our neighborhood groups and those people that we only see once or twice a year. A time to renew old friendships. Our speaker this year is the very inspirational Jan Squires, our Regional Director.

SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2010
Your Chapter Advisory Board (CAB) has lots of things going on right now. We’re a busy Chapter and that’s part of what makes our Chapter so great. We try to do lots of things to give everyone something to do, something to plan for and something that’s fun. Our God Bless America event is behind us now and was very successful. Thanks to all who sewed - we had a lot of things to donate to MOTS. This was done on behalf of our local soldiers who are presently serving our country and those veterans who have already done their part. Great job, ladies! We also had another very successful happening - our 4-H Sewing Camp. It was a huge success and plans for next year are already in the making. Volunteers for this camp are always needed - for one day, two days, all week - whatever you can do would be greatly appreciated.
We have an unexpected special event coming up on September 17th. Margaret Moorhead, embroidery specialist and Jennie Haskins educator, will be presenting a trunk show to our Chapter at the Waldemere Fire Station. The fee for this event is only $12 for members and $17 for non-members - that is surely reasonable. Contact Brenda Broadbent, Kathleen Heinicke or your neighborhood group leader for your reservation.
As mentioned previously, we have a bus trip to Jay’s Fabrics, a bead shop and a Christmas shop, all in one day, coming up on October 21st. You’ll see more about it in another part of this newsletter. Eva Winter, our website director, would like to see the website being used more than it is. Make a habit of visiting it frequently. You’ll find lots of interesting things on it and also any last minute changes in meeting dates, etc.
Our biggest news is the Regional Meeting which our Chapter is hosting from February 9-12, 2011. This is a really big deal and we’re going to need LOTS of help. So, please, when you are asked to volunteer some time and effort - be a good sport and say yes. You know the old saying - many hands make a job light - or something to that effect. Anyhow, we’ll need a lot of help to make this successful, at which, I might add, our Chapter is very good.
So, ladies, that’s about all for now. There will be no CAB meeting in August, so I’ll be back with you after the next one. Bye for now.

JULY/AUGUST 2010
Well, your board has been busy! We’re starting to make plans for next year’s Regional Meeting which our Chapter is hosting - won’t that be fun! Our region borders have changed and our region now includes the entire east coast. If all the region representatives come, that’s going to be a lot of people! It’s going to be fun and we hope that many of you will volunteer to help. There’s going to be lots to do.
We’re looking forward to our God Bless America event which will be held on July 3rd honoring our local veterans and currently active armed forces. The price of admission is “bring a dish to pass”.
Marie Gartley is heading up the Nominating Committee for 2011. If you think you would like to serve on our board, give Marie a call. (941)756-5387 bgartlyg@peoplepc.com There will be openings for this next year. It’s a wonderful way to serve our sewing guild. New board members bring a “freshness” to our board which in turn makes for a far better Chapter. The board meetings are always open to every one in the Chapter. Please come and see what it’s all about.
Plans are in the making for our Annual Meeting. The tentative date is November 20, 2010. We’ll be at Troyer’s Dutch Heritage House again this year and you know what great food they have. Our speaker will be Jan Squires, our Regional Director, who is most inspiring. Keep the date open.
As always, we need ideas for fund raisers. Money seems to go out faster than it comes in so if you have any good ideas, please give one of us a call. That’s all for today.

MAY/JUNE 2010
Time again for another update. Time flies. With the Spring Fling behind us and what a good time we had - I’d like to mention that we have fabric available in the storage unit for our neighborhood groups to use. A lot of this was purchased, for an extremely nominal price, at the Spring Fling but there is still a lot available. Your neighborhood group can have any of this for whatever projects they have in mind. All you have to do is contact Marie Gartley and she’ll be more than happy to meet you at the storage unit and help you get what you need. Many people donate fabric to us and this is a wonderful opportunity for us to use it. Keep this in mind as your do your monthly planning.
As always, we have a never ending need for fund raisers and if you have any ideas, good, bad or otherwise, please let the board know and we’ll look into them. As a chapter, we always have financial needs and fund raisers help lighten the burden on the chapter. We’ve had a couple of members suffer the loss of a loved one recently and any time you know of such a situation, please be sure to notify your neighborhood group leader and also our Sunshine Lady, Barbara Mallek, so that word gets out to every one. Plans for the 4-H sewing camp are in progress. This is a great opportunity for any one that is interested in helping children learn to sew - such an important project. If you wish to become involved, please let your neighborhood group leader know and she’ll point you in the right direction. They always need lots of help.
Plans for the American Day party are also in progress and there will be some community sewing get-togethers in the next few months to make projects for this occasion. Please plan on helping and attending.
Well folks, guess that about covers it for this time. The next meeting will roll around before we know it. Speaking of the next meeting, it will be held on May 8th from 9:00 to 11:30. Our meetings are held at Alma Sue’s Quilt Shop (what a great opportunity to shop!). The meetings are open to every Chapter member; you do not have to be on the board to attend. We welcome any one who wants to attend. So give it a thought; we’d be happy to see you there. You can find out for yourself what it’s all about.
Thanks for listening.

MARCH/APRIL 2010
This is the start of a new year with some new CAB members in place. It’s always good to see new people with new ideas; it will refresh the chapter. One of the important things we’re discussing is the need for fund raisers. If any of you have any ideas, please let a board member know. We need all the help we can get. We also have many things to look forward to this coming year. The Shirley Adams Show is behind us and the bus trip to Expo will be here really soon. Next is the Spring Fling and that was a real hit last year. By the noises I hear, it’s going to be even better this year. After that comes the retreat in April/May. Hopefully many of you will be attending that. We guarantee you a good time. What’s better than to just sit and sew to your heart’s content!
In July there will be an “Americana” party to help honor our returned veterans. More information will follow on that. I think that’s enough to keep us busy for a little while. There will be more news in your next newsletter following the next CAB meetings. Thanks for listening….
