In our February meeting we made Button Bracelets. Everyone had their creative hats on, adding beads and trinkets.

Edna Sams taught us how to make Martha Stewart’s Pillowcase tote bag. She showed us her technique of adding embellishments. Each one looked different and very practical. Thanks Edna for sharing with us. As always our sew & tell was fabulous.

In December, we had a wonderful Holiday Party. Helaine started our party with a Christmas Tree ornament made from wooden spools of thread. Quite clever! We included Sew & Tell this year. There were plenty of holiday ideas for next year! Of course, everyone brought their favorite dish to share and showoff and they were all scrumptious~ MaryJane and Kathleen had the group playing “relay races with mittens and candy kisses” to “Guess what sewing notions were in the stocking. MaryJane even played the piano while playing “pass the gift till the music stops”. It was a Holiday Party we will never forget! Marsha Semrinec and Joyce Coddington led January’s program. Before class we had washed and felted wool sweaters and jackets. We used this felted wool to make hats. There sure was a lot of creativity going on. From felting pola dots to couching ribbons, to peace signs, to flowers and buckles! I guess that is why we call ourselves Creative Sassy Sewers!

What a great meeting we had in October! Helaine took us step by step through the installation of a regular zipper using several different methods. It brought back memories of Home Ec class. After lunch and Sew 'n Tell, Kathleen went through the steps to install an "invisible" zipper. What a great refresher course in zippers!! We did not have a November meeting since the Annual Meeting was held the same day as our NG meeting.
November/December 2011
Our August meeting was a busy one . We brought fabric to cut into kits for our September meeting, the National Sewing Month “Make It-Take It” event. We cut kits for wallets, scrunchies, and embroidered draw-string bags. Many hands working together made it go by quickly and, as always, we had fun sharing our “Sew and Tell”. September was our National Sewing Month event, and we had over 60 people attending. It was a long day from 10 AM to 4 Pm, but it was rewarding to share our love of sewing with our community. Thank you all who helped to make this event such a huge success! Are you ready for next year?
September/October 2011
At our June meeting, Helaine Eckstein taught hand-sewing, and I know everyone learned something new. Helaine helped out again by issuing a Christmas challenge for our Christmas in July meeting. Each of us chose a Christmas FQ, and the challenge is to make something and bring it to the November meeting to be used at our Christmas Party. We all admired the Winter Wonderland display that Edna created for our front table. The rest of us were creating our Christmas projects. See the next page for our special project at the Library!
July/August 2011
May meeting we had a great attendance to help with the 4-H Sewing Camp kits. Several teachers taught us their projects and now we can make our samples for our students. Thank you to all who helped. Thank you, Helaine, for going over the itinerary for the Sewing Camp. Great job done by all.
May/June 2011
Elaine Chapman shared with us the “No Tan” appliqué technique in February. What a fascinating process. It was fun to create this with paper first! We brought our ribbons, yarns, threads and water soluble stabilizer to the March meeting. Kathleen showed us how to make her ribbon scarves; but some of us took it in a different direction and came up with some interesting creations!
March/April 2011
In December, our meeting was full of Holiday Spirit, Wassail, all types of food, games and prizes! At our January meeting, we made turtles for Paul Newman’s Hole in the Wall Camp. This year we have the room at the library from 9:30 Am to 4:30 PM. I t is nice to have the whole day to sew and visit while having our lunch, then sew some more! Show and tell was full of creative ideas and sew much talent! All are welcome to join us this year while we continue to be sew sassy!

NEW TIME!
NOTE NOTE: We will be meeting on the same day (except February), but from 10am to 4:30pm starting on January 8. (See page 6). At October’s meeting, Kathleen shared the “Leftover to Gourmet” placemat class she took while at Conference in Atlanta. The same technique was shown made up in a tote bag. Everyone addedtheir creativity and the end results were amazing! Show & Tell was entertaining as always!
November’s meeting was busy. We were making the “Heart Zippered Coin Purses” for our Region3 meeting that we are hosting in February,2011. The colorful fabric hearts and zippers inspired some of us to take them home to make more! Thanks, Sassy Sewers!

Our August meeting was full of UFO’s & NESTY’s (Never Even Started This Yet). It was fun to get together and see and share what others are up to in their sewing rooms! We saw more quilts being finished, community service sewing being done and Turtle patterns being traced and handed out. As always our Sew & Tell was incredible. What talent we have at ASG!
In September we dropped our feed dogs (on our sewing machine), threaded our machines with a happy color of thread and dived into the wonderful world of Thread Painting. We learned the four stitches used: Side, Satin, Outlining and Filling-In. Sew and Tell was again great!

We were busy at our June meeting sewing for our upcoming God Bless America event. I know the soldiers & their families appreciated the many sewn items.
At our July meeting, everyone was excited to share their favorite sewing foot or gadget. We learned so much from each other and had many laughs to share! What fun!!! On another evening at the library, we held a Sewing Class for 8 girls. They made a Sew Savvy Beach Tote. Each year, we try to hold a sewing class for the “Friends of the Library” youth program. It is rewarding to share the love of sewing! Thank you Sassy Sewers for helping with this endeavor!

April brought us to our 2nd anniversary! What fun and learning it has been! Brenda Broadbent shared a quilt-as-yougo project so that we could make quilts for our soldiers. Hope to see some of these at our July 3rd event! Thanks, Brenda! May’s meeting had us very busy cutting fabrics and making kits for the 4-H Sewing Camp schedule in June. We have 20 students enrolled, so that makes for a lot of kits! Thanks to all of you that were there to help!

At our February meeting, Pam Rosenburg taught us how to make the large expanding tote bag - we named “The Expo Bag” since we were getting ready to attend “The Sewing and Quilt Expo” in Tampa, the next week. Thank you, Pam! At our March meeting, we learned more about our sergers. Kathleen had samples of rolled hems, made with cording and also fishing line. She showed how to make ruffles and lettuce hems as you serge. Hopefully, everyone was inspired to take their sergers to the next level!

Our Christmas Party in December was hosted by Helaine Eckstein. Her homemade wassail got us in the festive mood. After sharing a potluck luncheon, we all settled in for some mind boggling holiday games brought to us by Elaine Chapman. Everyone had such a good time. Thank you Helaine & Elaine for a memorable Christmas Party! Pictures by Kathleen Heinicke

At our January meeting, Helaine taught her version of the Snappy Bag. What a great idea and it can be made in any size! Thanks Helaine for sharing with us another one of your neat sewing projects!

In November November, Shirley Spizak joined us for a very busy afternoon making the sewist tote. It has many compartments for all our sewing gadgets. Thank you Shirley for sharing with us!
We are fortunate to have the meeting room at this library again next year—same time—same Saturday!
