In October, Jennifer Michaels taught us the watercolor quilt technique. After cutting out numerous 2” squares from several different fabrics, the fun began as Jan showed us how to arrange them in a wreath pattern on fusible quilter’s grid. Everyone enjoyed the process and learned another technique.
At our November meeting, Leigh Communale taught us how to make origami roses. What fun to fold and fold and see a rose bloom. I can’t wait for next month’s Show & Tell to see what will have become of our roses!
In 2009, we will be meeting at the same place and same time, but we’ll change the Saturday to the 2nd Saturday of the month, except for March which will be March 21.

In August, we had a grand time learning the cathedral windows technique using our sewing machines. (The original method was by hand sewing). Helaine Eckstein brought a small Christmas ornament that someone had given her years ago. It was made out of tissue lame’ using the cathedral window square. By the end of class, we had figured it out from the samples we made. What fun! In September, we had a busy meeting. First, we discussed the upcoming year and the techniques we want to do. We proceeded to learn and make yo-yo’s. As always, our talented ladies shared their “Show-&-tells”. We had a lot of fun and the friendships we made are special. We all look forward to the next month to see each other and, of course, sew some more.

Part of Creative Sassy Sewers’Exhibit Shown Before and during the Creative Sassy Sewers’ August meeting, my daughter, Tiffany Bustle, worked on our display at the library for September, National Sewing Month. Our items were brought for display along with posters, books and notions. Our exhibit ended up being one of the best the library has ever seen. The librarians asked us if we could keep it up another month through October. We gladly said yes. Thanks to all who contributed! Kathleen Heinicke
September/October 2008
At our June meeting, Linda, the manager of Hancock Fabrics, shared with us the world of machine embroidery. Some of us went home with a newly embroidered T-shirt. Linda shared her excitement about a newly remodeled store coming soon with a larger variety of threads, fabrics, notions and books. If there is something you want to be available at Hancock’s, let Linda know. She will do her best to get it in the store.
Our July meeting was “Crazy”; — let’s say Crazy Quilting Crazy! Everyone seemed to enjoy the process and had fun being creative and making new friends. It is always interesting to see the assortment of fabrics and the finished looks that you can get from one technique. We welcomed 6 new sewing friends that promised to come back for more sewing fun. We look forward to sharing our crazy quilt squares next month. Can’t wait to see what they turned into!

July/August 2008
At our first meeting on April 26th, we had 17 (15 members and 2 visitors) in attendance as well as our own ASG Chapter President , Dolly Haerr. Kathleen, our group leader, greeted everyone and explained how CSS came to be. It was during our trip home from an ASG meeting in Venice, that we all took the day off from work to attend. Fran Hoffman, Dessa Barr, Jackie Silvasy & Kathleen Heinicke were discussing that it would be great to have a “hands on” neighborhood group that met on Saturdays in Bradenton. In several months with a lot of planning, together we created “Creative Sassy Sewers”!
At our first meeting, Kathleen went over the upcoming techniques and projects for the next few months and showed samples of them. We all started making our fabric name tags using “Loralie’s Sewing Girls” fabric. Everyone had a good time sewing and making new friends.
Our May meeting was another success! We each made 4 foundation paper pieced blocks and then decided which way to sew them together to create a larger block. Each one was different, interesting and fun to do! While we were busy sewing, we had visitors from the library. They were curiously stopping to see what we were all about. One came back to stay and is joining ASG!!! Everyone was wearing their fabric name tags! It was interesting to see how they turned out. They truly expressed our personalities! Hence, ”Creative Sassy Sewers”!!!
