Another great accomplishment for Marjorie K. Holloway, a member of ASG. Her outfit
“SHADES OF SPRING” appeared in FASHION IMAGINATION, presented by Bernina of America.
Marjorie used an innovative, hoopless technique in which appliqués and connecting tendons are satin stitched in rayon thread on doubled, heavy water-soluble stabilizer.
Marjorie explains, "When I washed out the stabilizer, I was left with my lacy garden." Her "plantings" represent an investment of 120 hours. The original vest ends in a downpour of beads.

Not only do our members sew, quilt, knit, crochet and do all other kinds of needle work, one of our members, Tedda Cooper, a great-grandmother, makes her own roller skating outfits and competes in contests. She has been a competitor since 1978 and has been enjoying it ever since. There is no stopping her. Congratulations!!

”RAGS”,
the subscription newsletter for the “Voice of the Raggedy World”, honored
Helaine Eckstein in its February 2004 publication.
Helaine,
ASG member of the Pins and Needles neighborhood group, was honored with her
submission of her Christmas decorations of Raggedy Ann. All over the house one
could see Raggedy Ann and Andy. Of course the tree was trimmed with all Raggedy
Ann/Andy ornaments
She
does most of her entertaining at this time of the year.
Her invitation reflected her theme. It even carried over into her food,
red white and blue.
Helaine
is an avid sewer, crafter and teddy bear maker/teacher. She also collects dolls
and of course Raggedy Ann is one of her favorites.

Marjorie Holloway of our Sarasota/Gulf Coast Chapter was the talented grand prize winner of the 2002 Sulky Challenge in the professional category. Her wearable art entry, “Reflections of India,” is a stunning jacket ensemble that took seven months to create. Small shisha mirrors are tucked into the tips of appliquéd paisley designs edged with precision satin stitching. The stipple-stitched background is enhanced with beading, piping and machine embroidery.
Marjorie has been competing for a few years. When teaching classes for a Pfaff dealer, he encouraged her to digitize a design and enter it in competition at the Pfaff dealers’ convention. She took first place in the suit and coat division and did it again two years later. Last year, she received a third place award in the Sulky Challenge.

Nancy Paul won 1st place in the amateur division for the 2001 Sulky Challenge. Her entry was a lace jacket made entirely of lace from Criswell designs and connected with countless Richelieu bars. Overall she used 9.9 miles of #1127 Sulky rayon thread and about 54 yards of SuperSolvy stabilizer. She is very excited over her win.
