Advantages of ASG Membership
When you join the ASG (American Sewing Guild), you are not only a national member, but a member of the Sarasota/Gulf Coast Chapter and the Neighborhood Groups of people who are enthusiastic about sewing. Some have advanced or professional sewing skills and some are beginning to sew. The majority of us are somewhere in be-between those two levels. We are learning new skills and making sewing friends who share our successes and challenges.
Our Neighborhood Groups have monthly meetings, where we can share our sewing projects and ideas as well as have hands-on sewing experiences. Our chapter has several different activities during the year, when we have the opportunity to learn even more from nationally known sewing professionals.
Our Chapter Newsletter, "Needle News", is sent out to members six times a year. It tells of Special Chapter Events as well as monthly Neighborhood Group Meetings!
On the National level we can attend the Annual Conference and participate in workshops and seminars taught by many nationally recognized professionals. Attendees can also shop the Exhibit Hall, enjoy special events and go on tours. From time to time classes are offered on the web (webinars).
Members also receive the ASG quarterly national publication, Notions, filled with an inspiring variety of projects and tips, the latest sewing industry news, new products, introductions to sewing experts and Guild News.
ASG members receive discounts at many local and national retailers, including Hancock Fabrics and Jo-Ann Stores! The retailers are listed for members on the national website:
www.asg.org .As members, we also help others by making items for preemie babies and older children in hospitals through seniors in nursing homes - wherever our talents, available time and interests are.

Name tags are ordered on the 15th of each month and may be picked up on the 15th of the following month from R.J. at Impressions Made Easy. Write your name as you want it printed on your name tag in the “Memo” line at the bottom left hand corner of your check.
ASG Annual Dues Increase Our dues have not increased for several years, while National’s costs of operation have increased just as any other business has over the years. They have absorbed the increases until now. Also they have not had an increase in income for 10 years. As of May 1, 2010 2010, dues will be $45.00 for renewing members. If you divide $45.00 by 12 months—that is $3.75 per month—which, as an ASG member, I save each month with my discounted purchases. Not to mention we now have a 15% discount at Nancy’s Notions - just food for thought. (Go to www.asg.org under “Members Only” for many more savings.) National has added the E-Classes to its web capabilities. It is free to ASG members and a wonderful way to connect with our ASG sisters from all over.
