A NOTE FROM THE PRESIDENT
July/August 2010
Summertime has many meanings for each of us. As a kid, I was excited to be out of school, enjoy the beach, sleepovers with friends, and family picnics. As I get older, I look forward to a less hectic work schedule, which in turn, means more sewing & creating time! This year I am looking forward to ASG National Conference in Atlanta, August 4-9. I will be representing our Chapter at Leadership Day. I will bring back new info to share with you all.
Those of us seasoned ASG members also know that July of each year brings to us our Joann Fabric Discount Card, enclosed in Notions Magazine. This year it will be mailed directly to each ASG member from Joann Fabrics. So please look for it your mailbox!
As of convention, our 7 Regions will be rezoned as follows: Region 1-Western US, Region 2-Central US, and Region 3-Entire Eastern Time Zone. Our Chapter will be hosting the Region 3 Annual Meeting in 2011! We have a lot of planning and preparing ahead of us along with our regular chapter duties and events. The Regional Meeting is a 3 day event for chapter representatives to attend and learn more about leadership. We will be preparing some events for them, along with activities to enjoy during their stay. If you would like to help in this endeavor, please contact me.
September is National Sewing Month. This year the theme is “2010 SewaNew”. I invite you to visit www.nationalsewingmonth.org. The observation of National Sewing Month began in 1982 with a proclamation from President Ronald Regan declaring September as national Sewing Month “In Recognition of the importance of home sewing to our Nation”. This is a joint venture with ASG. Let us plan now for sharing this with our libraries and meeting areas with displays and promotional events. If you have any ideas, please bring them to our board or call me.
I want to thank those that donated used sewing machines to our Chapter. They will be used in our 4-H Sew Camp! They are much appreciated! We are truly passing along our love of sewing when we teach our youth to sew! Thank you!!!
When was the last time you visited our Chapter’s Website? www.sarasota-asg.com ? It is a click away for chapter info and is a great source to go to between newsletters. Thank you Eva Winter, our Webmaster for managing it for us!
Mark your calendar; Sat, November 20th it is our Chapter’s Annual Meeting & Election of 2011 Chapter Advisory Board. The luncheon, meeting will be held at Troyer’s Dutch Heritage Restaurant. More info will follow. Jan Squires, our Regional Representative will be our speaker. She is a great ASG Sister that you definitely want to meet!
If you are interested in serving on our Chapter’s board, please contact Marie Gartley, 941-756-5387. There are several positions that will be available next year. We would love to have you aboard!
Until then,
Happy Creating & Sewing!
Kathleen
