Sewphie Says Sew!

TEN COMMANDMENTS OF A SEWING ROOM

Thou shalt enter this room as if walking on pins and needles.

Thou shalt not touch or attempt to organize this creative mess.

Thou shalt not use my scissors.

Thou shalt remember. . .One should not expect meals, clean laundry, or a spotless house when quilting and sewing calls.

Thou shalt remember... A stitch in time saves nine.

Thou shalt not stick unthreaded needles in the pincushion.

Thou shalt not covet this sewing machine, nor this fabric stash.

Thou shalt not put away the ironing board before it's time.

Thou shalt remember. . . whosoever enters

this room may leave with strings attached.

Thou shalt give thanks to God for all creative talents.

“Good Friendship is sewn with care.
and measured by kindness.”

A smile costs nothing but creates much. It enriches those who receive it without impoverishing those who give. It happens in a flash and the memory of it sometimes lasts forever. None are so rich they can get along without it and none so poor but both are richer for its benefits. It creates happiness and is the countersign of friends. It is rest to the weary, daylight to the discouraged, sunshine to the sad and nature’s best antidote for trouble. Yet it cannot be bought, begged, borrowed or stolen, for it is something that is no earthly good to anybody until it is given away. Nobody needs a smile so much as those who none left to give.

Sewphie Says Sew! by Evelyn LeVasseur evanbill@comcast.net

Here we are in the middle of another sweltering hot Florida summer which seems to go on forever! Luckily I can spend these days inside in A/C. I decided to pass the time cleaning, organizing, and vamping up my sewing studio. I'm always looking for organizers or new ideas for repurposing items. In my studio I use an over the door cloth shoe pocket organizer (I hang it over the ugly utility cupboard) for misc. items. I save plastic Moist Wipes containers (wash on top rack of dishwasher to loose smell) which fit perfectly in the pockets. I put small items like safety pins, rick-rack, etc. in the containers and label the ends so when in the shoe holder I can quickly tell what is in each pocket.
My sewing space is large and very functional. It has to be because I use it almost every day. But I have decided my space needs a punch of color so I have made colorful sewing machine and serger covers. I purchased a Simplicity pattern that was a Shirley Botsford design. This lady knows design but she could use some help writing directions. If you are not an experienced sewer you will have trouble. She leaves out a lot of info and many steps but if you can persevere the results are worth it.
I also plan to paint my storage cupboard doors multiple colors. I have 4 large cupboards which adds up to 8 doors, that should help add color to the room!!
Let me know if you have any suggestions for organizers or ways that you have added color to your sewing spaces. Feel free to email me any sewing related questions you have. I will attempt to help or find help if needed. Also email suggestions for future topics. Tune in again next month and remember to continue to:  Live
